The Visitor
“Let Me In!” he roared. I shot up in bed, covers strangling my skin, pillows stealing my breath. A cool breeze trickled through my window like water, racing along the walls and covering my body, until I gasped for air. He was back again. I gripped the murderous sheets, fear crawling up my spin like the legs of a spider, desire never far behind it. He was back for me. I looked slowly towards the window at the moon, whose innocent bright eyes gazed back at me facetiously. “Let me in…” he begged, voice like crashing waves against soft sand. “Please…let me in,” he asked again, and I could imagine his eyes—that winter grey flickering silver—laughing at me. “Open the door…” he lulled, seducing my mind, controlling my thoughts. I could feel translucent fingers pirouetting against my sweat covered flesh, twirling past my neck, tickling my rose colored cheeks. Dancing Shadows.
They Moved Beneath The Moon, swirls of liquid shadow. The soft pallid light danced, playing across their translucent skin and setting it aglow. “Dance with us,” they called, laughing gaily, silver eyes as bright as the moon glittering alluringly. I dipped behind the thin cotton of my curtain as the wind blew, my face hot. I wanted to join them. “Dance with us!” they sang, their voices like unfinished songs, lulling me towards them, pulling my heart like the strings of a guitar. “Come,” they pleaded, yet I kept my eyes closed. I couldn’t be fooled by their joyful play, for once I left the safely of my room, they would grab me and steal me away. Evil often did that…draped itself in the cover of night and presented itself as a peaceful thing. Evil often did that…appeared before you as your deepest wish, and hushed desire. Evil often did that…calling to you as the moon hung low, whispering its secrets, asking you to play. Evil often did that. I just hoped I would be …
