The Girl In Red

InnocentsThe Wind Blew, sending tiny white clusters of snow blowing in the breeze.

A red coat stuck out against that stark white thicket. Hair the color of spilled honey blew untied around a narrow face pinched in concentration.

She was only five, to young to be wondering the forests alone.

She stopped suddenly, her frail body pressed against a tall pine tree. Catching her breath she looked around, pale checks flushed with blood.

Four wolves stalked into the clearing.

Their dark coasts shimmered in the breeze. Their yellow eyes gleamed. Saliva dripped from their throbbing fangs, their talon like claws itching to tear through flesh, their minds filling with thoughts of her crimson, heat filled blood.

She stood still, little hands straining against her coat; as red as a furnace, a shining beacon in the otherwise colorless world.

The world froze . . .

The little girls face flushed with fear as they attacked without warning, their bodies ripping through the frost covered air, muscled limbs moving in unison…

A shape unlike there’s, bigger, darker–as black as night–flashed across her vision.

Eyes as dark as the night before dawn flickered in her direction before disappearing behind a wall of black.

Those bottomless eyes cut threw her like a knife just as its claws sliced through the four wolves like paper.

Their bodies fell to the earth, dark blood spilling–sliding–moving along the snow like water.

Golden EyesShe stifled a scream, eyes frozen in fear of this new beast that now strode towards her. Fear and…something else.

recognition?

The beast paused, inches from her face. Golden eyes flickering constantly,

beautifully . . .
